SPRING AND SUMMER OBLATE RETREAT DAYS
Orange County:

Br. Bede Healey will present a retreat day on Saturday, May 14, 2005 from 9:00-3:30 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Newport Beach. Mass is offered at 8:00 am for those interested. There are nearby shops where you can buy lunch or you may bring a sack lunch. The church is located on the corner of 15th St. and Balboa Blvd.. The parking lot is south of the church on the west side of the street. We will meet upstairs in the Parish Hall. Directions:
From the North - take the 405 Fwy to the 73 connector to the 55 Fwy
From the South- take the 405 Fwy to the 55 Fwy south
The 55 (Costa Mesa Fwy) becomes Newport Blvd which merges directly into Balboa Blvd at the Newport Pier. Continue on Balboa Blvd to 15th St.

Los Angeles County July 16, 2005-Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 1501 Fremont, South Pasadena
Retreat Day to be led by Brother Bede Healey from the Hermitage. Bring a sack lunch and a snack or drink to share. Plan on arriving at 8:45 for coffee and a snack. The retreat will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Mass offered at end of retreat.

Thursday 23rd June / Fly from USA to London

Friday 24th June
Arrive London. Transfer to the city centre with Pathfinders representative - city tour, including churches and holy places, en route to the hotel. Welcome dinner / overnight LONDON D

Saturday 25th June
Depart for Canterbury, with its magnificent, ancient Cathedral, now mother Cathedral of the Anglican Communion. Visit en route Leeds Castle, with its superb moated setting. Visit Canterbury city and Cathedral. Check into the accommodations for dinner and overnight. Dinner / overnight CANTERBURY BD

Sunday 26th June
Attend beautiful Eucharist at Canterbury Cathedral, visit Shrine of St. Thomas Becket. Here, as in all the cathedral cities, the abbey etc., liturgical prayer will be available. Afternoon visit to other churches and historic sites in Canterbury. Return to the accommodation for evening meeting and dinner. Dinner / overnight CANTERBURY BD

Monday 27th June
A further day of visits in Canterbury with optional excursion to Dover, with its famous Castle and White Cliffs, the garden of Great Dixter and the charming old town of Rye. Return to the accommodations for evening service and meetings. Dinner/overnight CANTERBURY BD

Tuesday 28th June
Depart this morning for Yorkshire, travelling northwards, with stops en route at Peterborough. Visit the great ancient Benedictine Cathedral of Peterborough, then continue onward into Yorkshire, England's largest county, to arrive at the Benedictine Ampleforth Abbey for a stay of three nights. Dinner/overnight AMPLEFORTH BD

Wednesday 29th June
Today is designated as a Retreat day at Ampleforth Abbey. Opportunity also to see the beautiful countryside which surrounds the Abbey and the College. Full board is included during the Ampleforth stay (packed lunch can be provided). Dinner /overnight AMPLEFORTH BLD

Thursday 23rd June
Transfer to York - walking tour of the historic city, including a special guided tour of the magnificent ancient Cathedral. Also visit some of the city's historic churches and the site of the martyrdom of St Margaret Ortheroe. Attend a service in York Cathedral. Dinner/overnight AMPLEFORTH BLD

Friday 1st July
A day to visit some of Yorkshire's most evocative and significant medieval abbeys, including the beautiful Fountains and Rievaulx. Also visit Mount Grace Priory if time permits. Overnight DURHAM OR WHITBY B

Saturday 2nd July
Travel north to the lovely city of Durham to visit the Cathedral, with its Shrines of St. Cuthbert and St. Bede. Visit also the heart of the little city above the river Wear. Continue to Lindisfarne, great center of Celtic monasticism : cross the causeway (tide timings will affect this day) and check into the accommodations. Dinner/overnight LINDISFARNE BD

Sunday 3rd July
Full day to experience Lindisfarne - retreat, church service, visits as preferred, e.g. boat trip around the Farne Islands, or tour Bamburgh Castle. Dinner/overnight LINDISFARNE BD

Monday 4th July
We journey southward through Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire to the "Midlands". Visit the old city of Coventry, and see the famous modern Cathedral of St Michael, great spiritual center of reconciliation, built alongside the ruined original medieval cathedral destroyed during the bombardment of Coventry during the Second World War. Then we continue to our hotel in Warwickshire. Dinner/overnight WARWICKSHIRE BD

Tuesday 5th July
We journey eastward into the region of East Anglia, to Norfolk, to visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, historic place of medieval pilgrimage, with its present ecumenical centers. Northern Norfolk is a very interesting region, with attractive villages and seaside towns. Continue to Norwich and check into the hotel. Dinner/overnight NORWICH BD

Wednesday 6th July
The day will be devoted to visits and meetings in Norwich, including the wonderful cathedral, some of the many fine parish churches, and the Shrine and cell of Julian of Norwich, great mystic and theologian.. Dinner/overnight NORWICH BD

Thursday 7th July
Depart for London. On the way we visit Bury St Edmunds and the ruined Abbey with the shrine of St Edmund, then continue to Cambridge, where people like George Herbert and Thomas Merton studied, to visit some of the finest colleges (including King's, with the great Chapel, and Trinity). We arrive back in London: opportunity for an optional theatre excursion tonight if required. Farewell dinner/overnight LONDON BD

Friday 8th July
Transfer to London Airport. Extension arrangements can be made if required. B

ARRANGEMENTS INCLUDE:
-14 nights' accommodation in pilgrimage centres and first class hotels - twin bedded rooms with private facilities Breakfast and dinner daily. 3 lunches, as indicated by the letters BLD.
-Private coach for specified itinerary (see accompanying letter).
-Local guides as required for city tours: provision has been made in the pricing for 5 guided tours.
-Admissions to cathedrals, churches and abbeys (a detailed list of admissions will be prepared when the itinerary is approved). Tips and taxes for included services except the bus driver and local guides.

NOT INCLUDED: Air fares, independent arrival/departure transfers Tour escort services other than for the designated guided tours, and airport transfers/ Personal items - beverages with main meals, laundry, telephone etc.

TENTATIVE PRICE PER PERSON IN TWIN:
(n.b. there are many variables, including number participants, currency exchange, etc., so the following can be only approximate)

Minimum of 20 paying passengers: $2,675.
Minimum of 25 paying passengers $2,500.

Single supplement, if desired, $370.
Non-refundable Deposit: $300 (due at time of commitment)

Early first responses do indicate a wide interest in the pilgrimage

Quotation based on estimate of rates for June and July 2005 but some rates are not yet confirmed. The price is subject to revision when these rates are published, and to alteration in the event of changes in national/local taxes. Subject to English law.
